Gov Namadi launches 5-year development plans for 27 LGAs in Jigawa, calls for accountability

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State on Monday launched the Local Government Development Plans (2025, 2030) for the state’s 27 Local Government Areas. He directed local councils to use this document as their main guide for budgeting, project execution, and governance.

At the launch event in the Council Chamber at Government House, Dutse, Governor Namadi stressed that the success of this initiative will depend on its implementation and the real results for the people.

He called the launch a significant step in his administration’s goal to create disciplined, evidence-based, and people-focused development planning at the local level.

Governor Namadi pointed out that while past strategies like the Local Government Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LEEDS) set a foundation for local planning, they failed due to lack of discipline and poor connection with yearly budgets.

"The local government development plans we are launching today show a clear revival and modernisation of local planning," Governor Namadi said. "They give each of the 27 Local Government Areas a clear, participatory, and future-focused guide for priorities, investments, and service delivery over the next five years."

He added that the plans come from wide public consultations and are in line with his 12-Point Agenda, the State Comprehensive Development Framework, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The governor urged local leaders to ensure these documents are not just for show.

"The real test of these plans will be how committed we are to implementing them," Governor Namadi said. "Success will be based on better service delivery, impactful investments, and clear improvements in the lives of our people. These plans must not be left to gather dust; they should guide every decision, resource use, and accountability check."

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Ibrahim Garba, called the framework a historic achievement for Jigawa State. He noted that the strategy was developed through inclusive talks with government agencies, traditional rulers, civil society groups, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and international development partners.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Jigawa State Chapter, Sibu Abdullahi, confirmed the commitment of local council leaders. He promised that all 27 LGA chairmen will strictly follow the framework in planning, budgeting, and project execution.
