Two female students from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, who were kidnapped during the killing of a bank manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday, are back home.

The university's spokesperson, Orakwe Ezugwu, announced their release in a statement to the press on Friday.

He mentioned that the students are now getting medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ikechukwu Dozie, has visited the students and talked with them.

The spokesperson said the school management praised the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for acting quickly.

He added that the university is safe.

The statement read, "The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during the gruesome killing of a branch bank manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday."

"The management assures students, staff, parents, and the university community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies."

"Members of the university community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and report any suspicious activity," the statement continued.

Recall that a branch manager of Polaris Bank in Owerri was shot dead by gunmen last Sunday while he was dropping off his kids at school. He tried to resist the kidnapping, which led to the tragic incident.
