Woman arrested for hurting her 7-year-old daughter with a hot knife

Another woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing her 7-year-old daughter.

Security agents in Anambra State have taken into custody a woman named Ogechi Ofoma. She is accused of severely hurting her daughter with a hot knife in the state.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, shared this information in a statement on Monday.

This incident comes just days after another woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, was arrested for allegedly using sex toys on her eight-year-old daughter and sharing a pornographic video of the child.

Mr Ikenga, who is a superintendent of police, said the report about Mrs Ofoma's actions was received on 13 September. He mentioned that she caused serious injuries to her daughter.

The incident took place in Obosi, a community in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

"The quick action of security personnel from the Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, and other concerned residents led to the child’s rescue and the arrest of her mother, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32," he said.

"Initial information shows that the child was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse. The injuries were reportedly caused by a hot knife."

Mr Ikenga stated that the police in the state have condemned this act and promised to ensure that those involved face justice.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, is working with Chinyere Onyekesi, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare.

He explained that this partnership aims to make sure the victim gets urgent medical attention, protection, and all necessary support.

Mr Ikenga praised the vigilance and quick actions of the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents. Their efforts helped save the child from more harm.

He added that their intervention allowed the police to act immediately.

The police command has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and fair.

"The welfare, safety, and best interests of the child are the top priority. The command will keep working with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable people and ensure accountability under the law," he said.
