Police Rescue 16-Year-Old Abductee in Anambra

The Anambra State Police have stopped a kidnapping attempt and saved a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, at Ekene Junction, along Oguta Road in Onitsha, a major city in the state.

Reports say the boy was taken from Igboeze South Local Government Area in Enugu State by a gang. The kidnappers left him behind when they got close to a police checkpoint in Onitsha after police officers disrupted their plan.

In a statement on Monday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, said the rescue happened thanks to better security operations on Sunday night.

Ikenga mentioned that the kidnappers ran away after police chased them. They had already suspected something was off about their actions.

The police are now working hard to catch the suspects. They also want help from the public to reunite the boy with his family in Enugu State.

The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up efforts to catch a suspected criminal gang after rescuing 16-year-old Favour Ayogu, who was taken from Igboeze South Local Government Area in Enugu State and later left near a police checkpoint in Onitsha."

"The rescue followed better joint security operations on the evening of September 13, 2026."

"A joint patrol team at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road in Onitsha found the boy after he was reportedly dropped from a black Toyota Highlander SUV by unknown people near the police checkpoint."

"The quick action of the patrol team led to the boy’s rescue and stopped any more harm. The police have increased surveillance and other intelligence efforts to find and arrest those behind the kidnapping."

The police also asked people, especially those in Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, to reach out to the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command if they have any information to help find the boy's family.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, praised the joint patrol team for their watchfulness and professionalism.

Ama encouraged officers to keep up their intelligence-led patrols, set up strategic checkpoints, and work together on security operations across the state.

"The Command assures residents and visitors that it is committed to protecting lives and property, responding quickly to emergencies, and making sure criminals have no safe place to hide in Anambra State," the statement concluded.
