Police arrest man over alleged rape of 15-year-old girl in Calabar

The Cross River State Police have arrested a man and are searching for others involved in the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, shared this news in a statement to reporters on Wednesday.

Eitokpah said officers from the Ikpa Omin Police Division arrested one Felix Solomon, who is helping the police with important information.

According to the police spokesman, the incident was reported at the Ikpa Omin Police Division on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. It was reported that the girl was taken against her will to a house in the 8 Miles area on September 4, where two suspects allegedly assaulted her and kept her there for nearly three days.

The statement said, "The Cross River State Police Command has started an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar.

"The incident was reported on 8th September, 2026, at the Ikpa Omin Police Division after an allegation that the victim was forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area on 4 September, 2026. There, she was allegedly assaulted by two suspects and was not allowed to leave for about three days."

After the report, police officers from the division arrested Felix Solomon, who is now helping them gather information. They are also working to find and arrest other people involved.

Eitokpah mentioned that the police have put in place proper investigative and child-protection steps to ensure the survivor's privacy, dignity, and well-being.

He added that the identity of the victim and other details will not be revealed to protect her from more trauma and stigma.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, instructed that the investigation should be done professionally and according to the law.

The CP assured the public that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted and face the full consequences of the law if convicted.

Ordue also warned against any form of sexual violence against children. He encouraged parents, guardians, and the public to report any suspected cases to the police or child-protection authorities immediately.

The command also advised against "trial by media". They reminded everyone that all suspects are considered innocent until a court proves them guilty.
