The police in Cross River State have arrested a man. They are also searching for other suspects related to the alleged sexual assault and unlawful confinement of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar.
The arrested man is Felix Solomon. He was taken into custody after the incident was reported at the Ikpa Omin Police Division on Wednesday, 9 September 2026.
On Wednesday, police spokesperson Sunday Eitokpah shared details about the case. He said the girl was allegedly taken against her will to a house in the 8 Miles area of Calabar on 4 September.
She was “allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects and prevented from leaving the residence for about three days,” Mr Eitokpah said.
Mr Eitokpah, who is an assistant superintendent of police, noted that Mr Solomon was arrested after the report. He is now helping investigators find out more about the alleged crime.
The police are also trying to find and arrest other individuals involved in the case. They said they have started their child-protection and investigative procedures to ensure the survivor’s privacy, dignity, and welfare.
The police promised that the girl’s identity and any other information that could reveal who she is would remain confidential. This is to prevent further trauma and stigmatisation.
They urged parents, guardians, and the public to report any suspected cases of sexual violence against children to law enforcement or relevant child-protection authorities without delay.
“The Command strongly warns against all forms of sexual violence against children,” the statement said.
The police also advised against trial by media. They emphasized that suspects are presumed innocent until a court proves them guilty.
This new allegation comes as Cross River has seen several reported cases of sexual offences against children recently.
