The Baule District is one of the three districts in the historic Tula Chiefdom, located in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State. This area has a significant history in Southern Gombe. The Tula Chiefdom was the first headquarters of the Tangale, Waja Native Authority during colonial times before the headquarters moved. Today, this history is still reflected in the communities of Kaltungo, Billiri, Balanga, and Shongom Local Government Areas.
The people of Baule District recognize the efforts of Gombe State's Government led by Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, especially in building roads and other public facilities across the State. This article aims to foster a spirit of partnership and constructive discussion rather than to criticize.
Baule District is blessed with fertile land, hardworking citizens, a rich cultural background, and great agricultural potential. The people here contribute significantly to food production, peaceful living, and democratic governance. Time and again, they have shown their dedication to democracy and the ongoing peace and progress of Gombe State.
Despite these contributions, getting to Baule District is still a big challenge. Community records and observations gathered between 2024 and 2026 show that many important roads, including Ture, Bule, Kaltin, Lafiya, Lungure, Dogon Ruwa, Nahuta, Kaltin, Baule Gari, Bundibunde, Sabon Gari, Dogon Ruwa, and Bule, Kaltin, Jalingo, face serious access issues, especially during the rainy season. These roads are crucial for farmers, school children, healthcare workers, traders, and local leaders.
The state of these roads shows the determination of the Baule people. For many years, residents have come together to clear roads, fix damaged parts, build temporary crossings, and improve access using their limited resources. Photos and videos from 2024 and 2025 capture these impressive community efforts. While these actions deserve praise, building permanent roads, bridges, and drainage systems needs ongoing public investment and technical skills that local communities or the local government cannot handle alone.
The development needs of Baule District go beyond just roads. Evidence from the study points out that more investment is needed in education, healthcare, clean water, rural electricity, tourism, and other public services. Improving these areas will boost farming, create more jobs, improve market access, and raise the living standards of people in the District.
The study also looks at how many qualified sons and daughters from Baule District have been included in important public positions since Gombe State was created. Good governance is better when every community has a chance to share its skills, experiences, and leadership in public service. A commitment to fairness, merit, and balanced representation will help build public trust and social unity.
Given the current financial situation, the Baule Community asks that if building every planned road is not possible right away, at least one all-season road should be prioritized to connect the District to the main road network. This would help improve access to hospitals, schools, markets, and government services, while also aiding farming and emergency responses.
This request is not meant to downplay the achievements in other parts of Gombe State, nor is it against any past or present government. It is a genuine call for the Federal Government of Nigeria, Gombe State Government, the North-East Development Commission, elected officials, development partners, and all stakeholders to work with the Baule Community to address long-standing infrastructure needs through open dialogue and careful planning to restore hope among the people.
The Baule District does not seek special treatment. It only wants what every community wants: safe roads, good education, accessible healthcare, fair governance, and a chance to help Gombe State continue to progress.
When every community is connected, empowered, and included, Gombe State becomes stronger for all.
