The Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area, Adedeji Omope, has promised to improve infrastructure, empower youths, and introduce social programs in the area. He said his government is dedicated to providing more benefits of democracy to the people.
Omope made this promise on Wednesday during the celebration of his first year in office. Over 2,000 residents received bags of rice as part of the council’s plan to ease the burden of the current economic situation.
At the event, the council chairman expressed gratitude to the residents for their support throughout the year. He described the success of his administration as a result of a strong partnership between the government and the people.
"Today, I stand before you with a heart filled with gratitude to Almighty God and deep appreciation to the good people of Bariga LCDA for the confidence, support, and cooperation you have given this administration over the past one year," he said.
He explained that the administration started with a promise to serve openly and ensure that every community benefits.
"From the very first day, our administration resolved that no community would be left behind. Development has reached all the eight wards of Bariga LCDA without discrimination.
"We have remained committed to serving every resident irrespective of ethnicity, gender, religion, political affiliation, or nationality. Every citizen deserves quality governance, and that has remained the guiding principle of our administration," he added.
Omope highlighted several achievements, mentioning that the council invested in road construction, drainage, environmental cleanliness, flood control, healthcare, educational support, youth empowerment, ICT growth, agricultural programs, social welfare, security, and staff welfare.
He stated that primary healthcare centers have been upgraded with modern medical equipment. Educational materials were given to students, and youths received training in digital skills along with laptops to help them improve their productivity.
The chairman also said farmers and those in need benefited from food programs. Additionally, sporting events were organized to bring young people together.
On security, Omope noted that the council has worked closely with security agencies. They provided operational support, installed solar-powered street lights in key areas, and maintained ongoing communication with community leaders.
He mentioned that caring for the environment is a top priority. This is done through regular sanitation, clearing drainage, collecting refuse, and preventing floods.
Omope praised traditional rulers, religious leaders, Community Development Associations, market leaders, youth groups, women’s organizations, civil servants, political leaders, security agencies, and development partners for their roles in the council's progress.
"These achievements are not mine alone. They are the result of our collective effort. They belong to every resident who believed in this administration," he said.
