The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has called its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, a key figure for Nigerians looking for a new Nigeria. They say his growing popularity shows that people want honest and accountable leadership as the 2027 general elections approach.
Abubakar Yusuf, APM’s National Publicity Secretary, made this statement in Abuja on Sunday. He mentioned that the party's talks with other parties are showing positive results as they work to form a strong opposition alliance for the 2027 elections.
He said, "APM’s cross-party talks are yielding results, making the platform the fastest-growing political alliance for opposition parties to present a formidable front to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the elections."
Yusuf noted that thousands of members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State and other residents gathered in Ado-Ekiti last Friday. They came together to show their support for Governor Makinde and to work with APM for the 2027 election while keeping their identity and structure within the PDP.
Yusuf called the Ekiti PDP’s support a major boost for their goal of electing Governor Makinde as Nigeria’s next President. He pointed out the failures of the Tinubu-led APC government as part of their reasoning.
The statement included, "We are working very hard and putting all our energy on this election because we are running to win. We have a good Presidential candidate in Governor Makinde who has already become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth."
He added, "As you are already aware, given Governor Makinde’s sterling performance, especially as Governor of Oyo State, Nigerians have accepted him as the credible alternative to President Tinubu, who has failed the nation in every ramification. So, we are in this election to win, and there is no going back."
Yusuf mentioned that since Makinde became the APM presidential candidate, more Nigerians are connecting with their party. Many are eager to support APM and its candidates.
He said, "That is why we have been galvanising cross-party support for our Presidential candidate, and I can confirm to you that our alliance talks with such like-minded political parties are yielding the desired results. So, we welcome the reaffirmation of support by the Ekiti Chapter of the PDP to our Presidential candidate, and I can tell you that you will hear more of such solidarity in the coming days."
Yusuf pointed out that Nigerians are turning to APM because of its focus on democratic values, accountable governance, security, economic recovery, and sustainable development.
He continued, "Nigerians are expressing support for Governor Makinde because of the distinct governance identity he has built in Oyo State. His administration’s record of performance in critical areas including the economy, security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and civil service welfare continues to attract national attention."
He emphasized, "So, we are not resting at all. We are focused on winning the election. We are building the numbers, we are strengthening the structure, and we will run one of the most issue-based and winning campaigns in the history of Nigeria. We welcome all Nigerians who share this vision to join the APM and be part of the movement for national renewal."
Yusuf assured Nigerians that once they get the chance in the 2027 elections, APM will prioritize the safety, prosperity, and welfare of citizens above everything else.
On July 24, 2026, the Ekiti PDP Chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, and other party members agreed at a meeting in Ado-Ekiti to work with APM in future elections while keeping the PDP’s identity and structure.
They also promised to support APM candidates in the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly elections.
