Adeleke orders investigation after Accord leader shot dead in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for an investigation into the death of an Accord Party leader, Olalekan Ajagungbade, also known as Emir. He was killed during a fight over control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.

Adeleke instructed the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to quickly arrest everyone involved in the killing and restore peace in the affected areas.

The governor's order came after reports of Ajagungbade's killing at Mayfair, Ile-Ife, on Sunday.

Sources told our reporter that Ajagungbade was attacked during a meeting with drivers at Mayfair around 1:20 PM. Details about what led to the attack are not clear yet.

A disturbing video showed Ajagungbade lying face down in a car, covered in blood. This incident led to more clashes between his supporters and a rival group, spreading violence to other parts of Ile-Ife.

A security source, who did not want to be named, said Ajagungbade and his men were attacked during the meeting. He shared, "Around 1:25 PM, we got a call about chaos at Mayfair. Ajagungbade, known as Emir, was shot at the motor park."

The source continued, "He and his men were fighting with someone named Sibi. During the fight, Ajagungbade was shot in the head. This was about a leadership struggle over the motor park. Police have taken control of Mayfair."

The source added, "After escaping the fight, Sibi and his men had an accident. Their vehicle crashed into an 18-seater bus on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway."

Attempts to reach the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, were not successful. His mobile phone rang out, and he had not replied to messages as of the time of this report.

Meanwhile, the shooting created tension in Osogbo, the state capital. Gunshots were heard in some areas, making residents stay indoors. Our reporter noted gunfire around the Isale Osun and Asoje areas of the capital.

In response, Adeleke ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest those responsible for Ajagungbade's death and to investigate the events surrounding it.

The governor also instructed that all warring groups leave the motor parks and directed security agencies to restore order across the state. This directive was in a statement signed by the governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and released in Osogbo on Sunday.

Adeleke stated that the killing was linked to a park leadership struggle. He added that the state government would bring back the Park Management System to ensure discipline in motor parks and garages.

He mentioned he would issue an Executive Order to implement the new management system. The governor urged residents to stay calm and assured them that the government would work to restore peace in the affected areas.

He told the Commissioner of Police, "Act quickly to catch all those involved. We must maintain law and order. No one is above the law; all offenders will face justice."

The statement concluded, "We ask the public to remain calm. We will restore peace in all affected parks and areas. Security agencies have been instructed to maintain peace at all costs. We are bringing back the Park Management System and I will soon issue an executive order to support this new management for parks and garages in the state."
