Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday. This visit is part of his consultations in Abuja after winning re-election.
A photo of the meeting was shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka. The picture shows Adeleke shaking hands with the FCT minister while both hold the governor’s certificate of return.
Olayinka wrote, “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
The visit took place just hours after Adeleke had a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Adeleke arrived at the Villa between 5:20 and 5:25 p.m. He wore traditional attire and was with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and some Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
During the meeting, the governor showed his certificate of return and thanked Tinubu for the smooth conduct of the August 15 governorship election. Adeleke ran for office under the Accord Party and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after getting 511,067 votes.
He beat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 out of the 30 local government areas in the state.
After meeting with the President, Adeleke spoke briefly with State House correspondents. He said Tinubu deserved praise for allowing the electoral process to happen without interference.
Adeleke explained that his visit was mainly to thank Tinubu, whom he called the “father of the nation,” for respecting democracy.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” the governor said.
