Why I Resigned from City Boy Movement, Ex-Oyo Coordinator

The former Oyo State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Ahmed Ajibola, has shared why he left the group. He pointed out concerns about how the state structure was being run and his differences with the leadership.

Ajibola, who is also known as General H, stated that his resignation is based on his personal values and beliefs. He made it clear that this does not mean he is withdrawing his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He shared this information in a statement on Instagram on Friday. This statement came after rumors spread on social media claiming he was removed from his position and made disrespectful comments about President Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, and other leaders in the movement.

Ajibola called these rumors “false, malicious, and misleading.” He emphasized that he was not fired, suspended, or let go from his role. He insisted that he chose to resign.

He mentioned that he was appointed as Coordinator of Directorate Affairs at the state level by the Oyo State Director on August 1, 2026. He also received another appointment on August 5 from the national leadership as Coordinator of Stakeholder Engagement for the South-West Structure.

Ajibola said he turned down both appointments before deciding to resign. “If I had truly been sacked, where is the letter of dismissal, termination, or removal from office? None exists because none was ever issued,” he said.

In his resignation letter to the national leadership of the movement, Ajibola expressed his gratitude for serving as Oyo State coordinator. He clearly stated that he would not accept the new roles offered to him.

Decision Based on Principle

Ajibola explained that his choice was not made out of bitterness but was based on principle. “My decision is based not on bitterness, but on principle,” he said.

He believes that leadership should focus on “fairness, loyalty, transparency, competence, and mutual respect.” He added that what was happening within the Oyo State structure led him to believe he could not stay with the movement “in good conscience.”

The former coordinator expressed disappointment in the direction of the movement at the state level, especially under the new leadership. “Certain actions and decisions have fallen short of the values that inspired many of us to dedicate our time, energy, and resources to the growth of this movement,” he said.

Despite this, he stressed that his decision is not a rejection of Tinubu or his government.

Support for Tinubu Remains Strong

Ajibola assured that leaving the City Boy Movement does not lessen his support for the President. “Let me, however, make one thing abundantly clear: my resignation from the City Boy Movement does not in any way diminish my support, admiration, and loyalty to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” he said.

He mentioned that he would keep promoting the administration's achievements and the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also confirmed that he will continue to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“My conviction remains unchanged, and my support remains unwavering,” he added.

Denies Claims Against Tinubu, Seyi

Ajibola also denied making any negative comments about Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, the Director-General, or anyone in the national leadership of the movement. He challenged those spreading the claims to show proof.

He said these allegations are part of a false narrative around his resignation and asked the public to ignore them. The former coordinator expressed gratitude to the movement's members who worked with him in Oyo State.

“I believe that positions may be given and positions may be taken away, but character, integrity, and service remain permanent,” he said. “Therefore, I have chosen to step away with my dignity intact, my conscience clear, and my gratitude unwavering towards those who believed in me and stood beside me throughout this journey.”

Ajibola thanked members for their loyalty, commitment, and sacrifices, saying he is proud of their achievements together. He wished the City Boy Movement success in the future.

In a separate social media post that went with his statement, Ajibola wrote, “Not every battle is worth fighting, and not every environment aligns with your values. Sometimes, the greatest act of leadership is knowing when to walk away with your principles, dignity, and self-respect intact.”
