President Bola Tinubu has criticized state governors, saying many of them focus on the wrong projects even though they are getting more money for their states because of his policies.
The president specifically pointed out that some state governors are using state funds to build flyovers that are not needed.
“You need to help us talk to these governors. Today, the cost of running things is high. But the money that I’m sending to the states, if you had it during your own time or my time, it would have been different,” Mr Tinubu told traditional rulers from Oyo State. They were led by the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Rashidi Ladoja, who visited him at the State House in Abuja.
Mr Ladoja was the governor of Oyo State in 2003 when Mr Tinubu was governor of Lagos State.
“The governors are taking four to five times their money. Nobody is borrowing money to pay salaries now,” the president added.
“Pensioners are receiving their pay, and they should do more. Instead of building flyovers where there is no traffic, they should focus on building roads and networks that improve the quality of life and help security agencies reach those areas.”
