Three Arrested for Vandalizing Government Property in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has arrested three suspects for vandalizing public properties and building structures on government land.

The suspects were caught on Monday evening by NSCDC officials working with Agunaechemba Security Outfit in Onitsha Local Government Area. They were vandalizing government property at the Onitsha South LGA premises.

SC Edwin Okadigbo, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations for the NSCDC Command, shared this news with reporters on Tuesday. He was reviewing the operational successes of the Command for the past week.

Okadigbo named the arrested suspects as Oseloka Anyaorah from Onitsha Umuasi, who claims to be the Chairman of Ogbo Family. The other two suspects are John Nwobodo and Ifeanyi Nwancho, who both say they work for Anyaorah at the site.

He said that items recovered from the suspects include a government signpost, zinc sheets, nails, and other building materials.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the suspects planned to damage and remove parts of government infrastructure belonging to Onitsha South LGA. The vandalized items have been recovered and are now with the Corps," Okadigbo added.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC State Commandant, Olatunde Maku, has condemned this act. He called the vandalism of public property an attack on the government and the people of Anambra State.

Maku stated that the Corps is dedicated to protecting important national assets and infrastructure. He ordered that the suspects be profiled and taken to court once investigations are over.

He also urged traditional rulers, town union leaders, and residents of Anambra to share timely information with security agencies. This will help prevent more vandalism of government facilities.
