The Airport Police Command in Lagos is set to charge 13 suspects. They were arrested for allegedly stealing building materials from construction sites at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The police shared this news in a statement on Friday. The statement was made by ASP Mohammed Adeola, the Police Public Relations Officer. He said the arrests happened on July 30 during a patrol by the Joint Monitoring Task Force around the airport's construction area.
According to the statement, this operation is part of the command’s ongoing effort to secure important national infrastructure. The aim is to stop any activities that could harm the ongoing work at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The statement also mentioned that the suspects were caught with valuable items. They had high-value copper cables, iron parts, and other building materials taken from the construction site.
The suspects were then handed over to the International Airport Police Division for further investigation and to face prosecution.
The individuals arrested include Ibrahim Hassan, Haruna Yaya, Ali Muhammed, Walid Shaibu, Idris Musa, Aliu Musa, Mustapha Umaru, Timothy Joseph, Isa Adamu, Musa Abdullahi Hassan, Mamuda Ibrahim, Mukhtar Aliyu, and Ibrahim Jidda.
The statement pointed out that even after successfully prosecuting several suspects for similar crimes in April 2026, some criminals are still targeting these construction sites.
It also noted, "The suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction."
CP Ogunbode Olufunke, the Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, praised the Joint Monitoring Task Force for their work in protecting airport infrastructure.
She confirmed that "the safety and security of the airport remain a top priority" and urged the public to stay alert.
