The police in Ekiti State have arrested six people linked to a cult group called the Alora Confraternity. This happened after a violent fight at a hotel in Ikere Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said in a statement on Monday that the suspects were meeting at the hotel in the early hours of Saturday, August 1. Suddenly, they got into a physical fight with one another.
Abutu said, "One of the members, known as Sucrose, got badly injured and was rushed to a hospital for treatment."
He added, "After the incident, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad and Ilupeju Division quickly arrived at the scene and arrested six suspects."
During the first round of questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted they were members of the Alora Secret Cult Confraternity, according to the PPRO.
The police recovered several items from the suspects. These included a Toyota Camry car, two fez caps with the Alora logo, three plastic cups with the Alora logo, a blood-stained shirt, a pair of scissors, a yellow headband, and a key holder with the Alora logo.
Abutu said the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a deeper investigation into the incident. He mentioned that the police are also looking for other suspects who escaped.
The police are checking the hotel for allowing its premises to be used for cult activities. CP Falade emphasized that the police have zero tolerance for cultism and violent crimes.
He assured the people that the police will keep working to protect lives and property and maintain peace in the state. Falade also asked the public to share any useful information that could help catch the remaining suspects and other criminals to ensure everyone can enjoy a peaceful environment.
