The federal government has announced that Tuesday, 25 August, will be a public holiday.

Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this announcement. He said the holiday is to celebrate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid.

Millions of Muslims around the world mark the Eid to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims. He also encouraged all Nigerians to learn from the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. He called on everyone to pray for peace in the country.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” he said.
