The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has stopped a planned kidnap operation in Oron Local Government Area.

Timfon John, the police spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, shared this in a statement to journalists in Uyo on Tuesday.

Ms John, who is a deputy superintendent of police, said the command got reliable information from local residents about a suspected kidnap plan in the Oron area.

Following this report, police operatives carried out a joint intelligence operation at a suspected criminal camp along the Calabar-Oron channel.

During the operation, police officers found one pump-action gun, two cartridges, and one white rope believed to be for criminal activities.

The police also recovered two speedboats, three 200HP outboard engines, and one 15HP outboard engine.

The spokesperson noted that these items have been properly documented and stored safely for further investigation.

Ms John explained that this operation is part of the command’s ongoing strategy for intelligence-led and proactive policing.

"The strategy is aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks before they can carry out their plans," she said.

She added that the command is focused on preventing criminals from using the waterways in Cross River as their operational bases, hideouts or escape routes.

The marine police unit has been maintaining high vigilance in key waterways and coastal areas in the state.

Ms John assured the public of the command’s dedication to the safety of residents in coastal communities, boat operators, fishers and other users of the waterways.

She mentioned that the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Baba Azare, is pleased with the bravery of police personnel in the state.

"The commissioner of police is happy, the men are working gallantly. He is pleased with their professionalism, courage and effective intelligence," she said.
