The Kano State Police have found 160 solar inverters worth ₦59.2m. They arrested four people in different operations related to theft and armed robbery of fuel dispensing machines valued at ₦10.2m.
The police shared this news in a statement on Saturday from their spokesman, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa. He said these successes happened in just 48 hours thanks to intelligence-led operations by the Sharada Police Division and the Special Intervention Squad.
The statement revealed that officers from the Sharada Police Division acted on reliable information on July 29. They learned that a 43-year-old man named Abdullahi Isah was selling large amounts of solar inverters at very low prices.
The police arrested Abdullahi, and during a follow-up search, they found 160 units of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters in an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters along the Western Bypass in Kano.
“The recovered items are reasonably suspected to have been stolen. We are calling on anyone who owns or lost solar inverters like these to report to Sharada Police Division for identification and possible recovery,” the statement said.
The police added that investigations are still ongoing to find out where the recovered items came from and to identify other suspects involved. Abdullahi will face charges in court once the investigation wraps up.
In another operation, the police arrested three suspects linked to the theft of six fuel dispensing machines worth about ₦10.2m from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village along Maiduguri Road, Gaya Local Government Area.
The police explained that armed robbers attacked the filling station early on July 25. They overpowered and tied the security guards before locking them in the security room and took the machines away.
After receiving a complaint, members of the Special Intervention Squad tracked and arrested Bishir Abubakar, 60; Shamsu Abdullahi, 30; and Alhaji Shamsu Lawan, 56, all from Katsina State.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted to buying the stolen fuel dispensing machines from one Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State for ₦5.2m.
“Efforts are ongoing to catch the fleeing suspect and recover the stolen fuel dispensing machines. Investigations are still in progress, and the suspects will be charged to court once they are complete,” the statement added.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the officers involved in these operations. He said these recoveries show the command’s commitment to fighting crime using intelligence-driven policing.
“We will not stop working to break down criminal networks and recover stolen goods across Kano State. We also thank community policing partners whose quick information helped us achieve these results,” Bakori said.
The commissioner urged residents to avoid buying items sold at unusually low prices and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
“We ask everyone to stay alert and keep supporting the police with timely and credible information. This cooperation is key to continuing the fight against crime,” he added.
