Police nab 22-year-old for trying to sell stolen motorcycle in Cross River

The Cross River State Police have arrested a 22-year-old man named Ason Onen Usang. He was caught trying to sell a motorcycle believed to be stolen in Ekori, Yakurr Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, shared this news in a statement on Sunday in Calabar.

Eitokpah explained that officers from the Ekori Police Division arrested the suspect around 9pm on September 9, 2026. He was allegedly in the process of selling the motorcycle when police arrived.

During the operation, police recovered an unregistered Dayang motorcycle with Chassis No. LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine No. DY156EMI7133995. This motorcycle is suspected to have been stolen from Ikom Local Government Area.

The statement read, "The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 22-year-old Ason Onen Usang of Abi Local Government Area and recovered an unregistered Dayang motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from Ikom Local Government Area.

The suspect was arrested at about 9:00 p.m. on 9 September 2026 by the men of Ekori Police Division while allegedly attempting to sell the motorcycle.

The motorcycle bears Chassis No. LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine No. DY156EMI7133995. The suspect claimed he bought it from an unknown person but could not provide the name of the seller, purchase documents, or any other proof of the transaction."

Eitokpah mentioned that the suspect is still in police custody. They are working to find out where the motorcycle came from, who the real owner is, and to trace the seller.

The police also want to know if others were involved in the theft.

They are asking anyone who recognizes the motorcycle or has information that could help locate its owner to contact the PPRO at 07067977330 or *09058273057. They can also report to the nearest police station.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, confirmed the command’s dedication to fighting property crimes. He wants to recover stolen items and ensure victims get justice.

He promised that when the investigation ends, the suspect and anyone else found guilty will face charges in court.

"We are committed to fighting property-related crimes, recovering stolen property, and supporting victims in their quest for justice. Once the investigation is complete, the suspect and any other person found culpable will be charged to court according to the law," he said.
