Operatives of the Lagos State Police have arrested a suspected armed robber and seized a locally made gun along with various charms. This happened during a routine patrol in the Igando area of Lagos State.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, shared this news in a statement released on Wednesday.
The PPRO mentioned that this arrest is part of the police's ongoing work against crime in the state.
The statement revealed that the arrest took place when police stopped a motorcycle with three men. Their behavior raised the suspicion of the police patrol team.
The statement said, "As part of the ongoing efforts against crime in Lagos State, operatives of the Lagos State Police have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol as well as assorted charms during a routine patrol in Igando."
It continued, "The arrest happened when a police patrol team noticed a motorcycle carrying three men acting suspiciously.
“When the suspects saw the police, they tried to run away. One of them, Olajunja Segun Samson, 29 years old, was caught, while the other two escaped, leaving the motorcycle behind."
The police said that a search on the suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the discovery of "one locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms."
The statement added, "The suspect is now in police custody, and efforts are ongoing to catch the ones who ran away. The investigation is still in progress."
The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, praised the operatives for their "vigilance and professionalism."
The statement also said that the commissioner "assured residents of the police's firm commitment to fighting violent crimes and urged the public to keep sharing timely information that can help prevent crime and catch criminals."
The police urged residents to report any suspicious activities through their emergency lines to ensure quick police action, as stated in the release.
