The police in Abuja have arrested 40 suspects linked to a robbery that happened near Unity Fountain in the Maitama area.

This action came after a video went viral, showing the robbery. The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Sanusi, ordered immediate raids on known criminal spots around Unity Fountain.

Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the police command, said on Monday that officers from the Maitama Division carried out coordinated raids on these areas.

During the operation, they arrested 70 suspects. After checking their information, 30 were released.

"Following preliminary screening and due process, thirty (30) of the suspects were screened and released, while forty (40) suspects were retained in custody for further investigation," Ms Adeh explained.

The victim from the robbery later identified two of the suspects as people he recognized from the incident.

These two suspects, along with the others arrested, are still in custody as the police continue their investigation.

"The identified suspects, alongside other persons retained in custody, are currently in custody, while investigations are being expanded to identify and apprehend any other person(s) who may be connected to the offence," the police spokesperson added.

The police encourage residents to stay alert and report any suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station or through their emergency lines, 08032003913 and 08061581938.
