Over 30 People Killed in Attack in Kaduna

The Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Union (SOKAPU) has reported that more than 30 people, including women and children, were killed early Monday. This attack happened in Kamaru village, located in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a letter dated July 27 and sent to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, SOKAPU President Tabara Kato showed concern about the worsening security situation in rural and farming areas of the state.

Mr Kato pointed out that this tragedy occurred even after officials promised security and held talks with various stakeholders.

He added that people in Kajuru, Chikun, Kauru, and Zangon Kataf LGAs live in fear. Many families have been forced from their homes as armed groups operate freely.

Mr Kato called on the police to take swift and strong action to stop the rising killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farms.

The group also requested a move away from just reacting to security issues. They want a more proactive approach that uses intelligence in policing.

They suggested sending mobile police and counter-terrorism units to vulnerable rural communities and forests. This is to help find and destroy criminal hideouts.

The group also asked for quicker responses to emergency calls and better communication to rebuild public trust. They emphasized that the government’s main job is to protect lives and property.

SOKAPU copied the letter to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. They urged all security bodies to treat this issue with urgency to stop more deaths and displacements.

The Kaduna State Government also condemned the attack that caused many deaths and damage to property.

Government spokesperson Ahmed Maiyaki released a statement expressing sorrow over the incident. He confirmed that security forces have been ordered to find and arrest those responsible.

"The Kaduna State Government has received with deep sorrow reports of the killing of persons following an attack on Naridon Village,” the statement said.

"The Government strongly condemns the attack and has directed security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice."

In response to the incident, Governor Uba Sani sent condolences to the families who lost loved ones. He prayed for the souls of the deceased and for quick healing for those hurt in the attack.

"To help the affected community, Governor Sani instructed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) to quickly gather and send relief materials and support to the victims' families."

Addressing ongoing security issues at the state borders, Mr Maiyaki said the government is committed to working with Plateau State, security agencies, traditional leaders, and local groups. They want to strengthen cooperation for security and bring lasting peace to border areas.

The statement also urged residents to stay calm and avoid taking revenge.

"The Government encourages residents to remain peaceful, vigilant, and law-abiding. They should support security agencies with useful information, reject violence, and choose dialogue. The Kaduna State Government is dedicated to protecting every community and maintaining peace and social harmony across the State," Mr Maiyaki stated.
