The Ogun State Executive Council has given the green light to new infrastructure projects. This includes building new homes for lawmakers, housing schemes, fixing the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, repairing major roads, and upgrading traditional chieftaincy roles. These moves show Governor Dapo Abiodun’s focus on development, urban renewal, and preserving the state’s culture.
The approved projects include 450 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with basic facilities, 28 new official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and 28 duplexes for sale at Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) Scheme II. The Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja will also be reconstructed.
The Executive Council has also approved the repair of several important roads across the three senatorial districts. This is to improve travel, boost economic activities, and raise the living standards of residents.
The road projects include the rebuilding of the Okun-Owa, Ijebu-Ode Road in Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode Local Government Areas. The Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu-Igbo, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road in Ijebu North Local Government Area will cover 19.05 kilometres, with road widths between 5.5 metres and 14 metres. Phase One of the Odeda-Olugbo Road in Odeda Local Government Area will span 5.5 kilometres, with an average width of eight metres. The Ayobo (Mopol Junction), Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area will measure 3.6 kilometres with a width of 10 metres. Lastly, the Agbala Road in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area will cover 2.78 kilometres with a width of eight metres.
To support traditional institutions, the Council approved the upgrade and appointment of the Akoko of Tongeji Island, the Onitafin of Orile Itafin, and the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo as recognized chieftaincies. They also approved the creation and upgrade of certain coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba, and Yewa Traditional Councils.
Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, announced these decisions. He said the approvals show the government’s commitment to ongoing infrastructure changes and reforms under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.
Mr Akinmade mentioned that fixing the House of Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge aims to create a better working environment and keep valuable government properties. This move will also help future governments transition smoothly.
He explained that these approvals match the government’s plan to replace old public infrastructure with new, functional buildings that meet the state's growing needs.
Mr Akinmade pointed out that many buildings inherited by the current administration are over 50 years old and in bad condition. Their repair is part of a larger urban renewal program that is changing many old government buildings into modern facilities.
He also noted that the 450 housing units will support the administration’s affordable housing program. This will not only give more people access to good homes but also boost the economy through construction work.
The Special Adviser added that the 28 duplexes at Ibara GRA Scheme II will increase the estate’s value, attract private investors, and strengthen Ogun State’s appeal for living and business.
Speaking about the road projects, Mr Akinmade said these approvals show the government’s drive to connect communities. They will cut travel times and improve access to markets, schools, hospitals, and industries, helping socio-economic growth across the state.
On the chieftaincy approvals, he said these decisions highlight Governor Abiodun’s dedication to preserving Ogun State’s rich culture and supporting traditional institutions. He sees these institutions as key partners in promoting peace, security, and community development.
Mr Akinmade emphasized that upgrading deserving traditional roles will boost the dignity of these institutions, improve traditional governance, and encourage better cooperation between traditional leaders and the government for sustainable growth.
He reiterated that Governor Abiodun is committed to building lasting infrastructure, protecting public properties, strengthening governance institutions, and creating a modern Ogun State that attracts investments, encourages growth, and enhances the well-being of its residents.
