The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Anambra State has arrested a man named Sunday Ukeh. He was caught with a truck carrying 45,000 litres of suspicious adulterated petrol.
The suspect is also accused of trying to attack NSCDC officers during the operation.
On Monday, Edwin Okadigbo, who is the Head of Media and Tactical Operations for NSCDC Anambra, released a statement. He said the suspect and his truck were stopped on Sunday at Amansea along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka. This happened during an operation led by the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Squad based on intelligence.
Okadigbo explained that Sunday Ukeh, from Odume in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly tried to assault NSCDC officers while being arrested.
The statement said, “On Sunday, July 26, 2026, at about 1100hrs, the Anti-Vandalism Squad led by CSC Nwosu Christian, while on a proactive operation driven by intelligence, intercepted a truck allegedly laden with 45,000 litres of suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit at Amansea, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
“The suspect, Sunday Ukeh, from Odume in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, was flagged down by the Anti-Vandalism Squad on reasonable suspicion of adulterated petroleum products racketeering, but he refused to stop and attempted to drive through the personnel, almost running over members of the team.
“A hot chase ensued, and the suspect was successfully intercepted at the Military Checkpoint, Amansea. Upon interception, he made an attempt to assault one of the Anti-Vandal personnel.
“The suspect was subsequently subdued and taken into custody. Preliminary investigation indicates several discrepancies in the waybill presented by the suspect. Both the truck and the product have been impounded for further investigation.”
The NSCDC warned that it would not accept any form of lawlessness or attacks on its personnel while they do their jobs.
“The Command categorically states that any person or group of persons who attack its personnel on lawful duty will face the full weight of the law.
“The State Commandant praised the Anti-Vandalism Squad for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting illegal activities in the petroleum sector in Anambra State,” the statement concluded.
