Nine people died and eight others were injured in a road accident near Zangoro village on the Bauchi-Maiduguri Federal Highway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed this in a report issued on Tuesday by the Bauchi Sector Command.
The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on Monday, and the FRSC was informed just five minutes later.
Senior Road Marshal Assistant Suleiman Adamu Toro said FRSC officials got to the scene by 11:40 p.m., showing a response time of 15 minutes.
He noted the crash involved a commercial Toyota bus with registration number DRZ 133 LG and a MAN diesel tipper that had no registration number.
Toro mentioned that 17 male adults were involved in the crash. Nine were confirmed dead after being burnt beyond recognition, while eight others suffered injuries.
He stated that a tyre burst while the commercial bus was moving likely caused the accident.
The damaged vehicles and other items found at the scene were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Bauchi State Police Command for further investigation.
Toro added that FRSC personnel worked to identify the victims, and they were confirmed on Tuesday.
The injured victims were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment. The bodies of those who died were taken to the hospital morgue.
