The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted sunshine and cloudiness across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.
NiMet’s weather report released in Abuja shows that the northern region will have sunny skies with some clouds on Sunday.
In the morning, there is a chance of thunderstorms with moderate rain in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states.
In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.
“For the North Central region, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory in the morning hours.
“By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa States and the Federal Capital Territory,” it said.
According to the agency, moderate rain is expected in Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states in the southern region during the morning.
The agency also predicted moderate rain across the entire southern region later in the day.
On Monday, NiMet expects thunderstorms with moderate rain in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States of the northern region during the morning.
Thunderstorms with moderate rain are also expected later in the day in Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
“For the North Central region, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Niger, Kwara States, and the Federal Capital Territory in the morning.
Later in the afternoon or evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are anticipated across the region.
“For the southern region, there is a chance of light rain in Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Rivers States during the morning.
The agency also sees a partly cloudy sky with chances of thunderstorms and moderate rain across the region later in the day.
On Tuesday, NiMet anticipates partly cloudy skies in the northern region with chances of thunderstorms and light rain in Bauchi, Jigawa, and Yobe States in the morning.
Thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across the region in the afternoon and evening.
“For the North Central region, sunny skies with some clouds are expected in the morning.
“Later in the afternoon or evening, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across the entire region.
“For the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with chances of light rain in Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States during the morning,” it stated.
The agency expects thunderstorms with moderate rain across the entire region later in the day.
It advised the public to take precautions and secure loose items to prevent them from being blown away by strong winds before the rains.
The continuous rains expected in the coastal areas of the South have a high risk of flash flooding. Avoid driving or wading through floodwaters. Driving in heavy rain should be avoided.
“Disconnect electrical appliances from sockets. Stay clear of tall trees to avoid falling branches and broken trees.
“Airline operators should check airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for proper planning in their operations. Residents should stay informed through weather updates from NiMet. Visit our website www.nimet.gov.ng,” it said.
