Keyamo says Tinubu's 2027 election will be a walk in the park

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, believes President Bola Tinubu will win re-election in the 2027 presidential poll. He called the upcoming election “a coronation, not an election.”

Keyamo shared his views on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, a program on Channels Television. He backed the Tinubu government and dismissed the opposition's chances.

When asked if he would encourage Nigerians to vote for the APC again, Keyamo pointed to the party's recent wins. “We have won in Ekiti now. We told them to vote, they voted. FCT they voted, we won,” he said.

The interviewer mentioned that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now with the African Democratic Congress, and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, would be running in 2027. But Keyamo said he was not concerned.

“I’m looking around, between you and me, where will Obi’s votes come from? I can’t see it,” he stated. When asked if Atiku was a threat to the APC, Keyamo laughed and replied, “Which Atiku? Nightmare who?”

The minister ended by saying that Tinubu’s re-election is almost guaranteed. “I want to make a profound statement as a closing statement. Not out of arrogance, not out of overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculations: the 2027 election is a coronation, not an election.

“I repeat, don’t take me out of context, out of pure demographic calculations, it’s a coronation,” he added.

Tinubu is expected to run for a second term on the APC ticket, with Vice President Kashim Shettima joining him in the 2027 election. His main rivals will be Atiku and Obi, who has chosen former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Together, these three candidates are set to lead what looks to be a very competitive multi-party presidential race.
