The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N24 million that was recovered during an investigation. This money was linked to an alleged conspiracy and fraudulent sale of shares involving former senator, Alaba Obende.
Mr. Obende served as the senator for Edo North Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015 during the 7th National Assembly.
The EFCC handed over the money to him on Thursday at its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2.
According to a press statement from the EFCC released on Friday, the money was given in three bank drafts issued by Access Bank.
The recovery came after the EFCC received a petition on January 15, 2020. The petition alleged conspiracy and fraudulent sale of shares by Coronation Securities Limited.
The EFCC did not share more details about the alleged fraud or how they recovered the money.
This handover is part of the EFCC’s recent efforts to recover assets in Lagos.
