Veteran Nigerian musician, Eedris Abdulkareem, has launched a new initiative called the Nigerian Governors’ Report Card Series. He also released three songs in honor of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, praising the governor for his achievements in office.
The project was introduced by Lakreem Entertainment during a press conference in Lagos. It aims to evaluate how well the 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory are performing. The assessment will look at areas like infrastructure, security, management of public funds, and delivery of democratic benefits.
At the launch, Abdulkareem explained that this initiative aims to encourage accountability among governors. This is important now that states are getting more financial support due to recent economic changes.
He stated that the report card series will highlight governors who show good leadership. It will also call out those who do not meet the expectations of their people.
“The Nigerian Governors’ Report Card Series will beam penetrative searchlights on all the 36 state governments and the FCT, celebrating their successes when and where they deserve it and publicly calling them out for their incompetence and visionlessness where and when applicable,” he said.
Abdulkareem named Otti as the first governor to be featured in the series. He described Otti as a transformative leader who has made significant progress in his administration.
He mentioned that the first edition includes three songs titled ‘Overcoming Challenges’, ‘Inspired to Serve’, and ‘Vacancy No Dey’.
According to Abdulkareem, ‘Overcoming Challenges’ tells the story of Otti’s strength and determination to overcome political hurdles to become governor. He said ‘Inspired to Serve’ shows the governor’s goal of rebuilding and improving Abia State. The song ‘Vacancy No Dey’ celebrates what he calls the achievements of the administration in its first three years.
Abdulkareem noted that the songs were made after talks with residents across Abia State. He believes the project reflects how the public views the governor’s performance.
Myke Pam, a media consultant, also spoke to the press. He said Lakreem Entertainment chose to focus on state governments because governors are now getting much higher funds after the removal of the fuel subsidy and other financial reforms.
He added that they plan to evaluate every state and the FCT. They want to celebrate those governors who meet their promises while highlighting those whose performance does not meet expectations.
The event also introduced Abdulkareem’s son, Abdulraheem, also known as DJ Papi, as the official disc jockey for Lakreem Entertainment.
