Atiku raises concern over strange bank credit

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concern over a strange credit in one of his private bank accounts at a major Nigerian bank.

This was shared in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, on Friday in Abuja.

The statement says the transfer, labeled "Contribution Electioneering Campaign," came from a person unknown to Atiku.

"Neither His Excellency nor his campaign solicited, authorised or has any knowledge of the individual or entity behind the unauthorised payment," the statement noted. It added that the situation surrounding the transfer is very worrying for him.

The account in question is a private one, and its details are not available to the public. This raises a serious question: How did unknown people get access to the private banking details of a former Vice President?

If someone can access the private banking information of a leading presidential candidate, then no Nigerian's financial privacy is safe. It is even more alarming that this information might have been gotten through people who have special access. If this is true, it would be a serious abuse of power that could put the account holder at risk from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters, and other criminals.
