APM will surprise APC in 2027, says Ondo candidate

The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for the Ondo Central Senatorial District, Sunday Falae, has said his party will defeat the All Progressives Congress in the district during the 2027 general election.

Falae believes the senatorial district needs better representation at the National Assembly. He accused the APC of not making a real difference in the lives of the people, especially in Akure, the state capital.

He shared this during an interview with our reporter in Akure on Sunday.

Falae said the APC's claim that there is no opposition in Ondo State is just a tactic to scare other political parties and their supporters.

He stated, "I heard the APC bragging that they have no opposition in Ondo. Of course, everybody would say that. It’s just to intimidate people. What have they done for the people? No impact. But they know, and I’m sure their candidates know that they have opposition. Because when there are some names you mention, they will shake.

“Trust me, there is opposition. The campaign has not started officially; when it kicks off properly, they will know that there is serious opposition. But right now, even within their party, there is opposition. The APM would shock them at the poll in 2027.”

Falae is confident about winning the election. He is the nephew of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and traditional ruler, Oba Olu Falae. He believes his knowledge of the district and his popularity will help him.

He said, "The chances are, the people and, luckily, politics nowadays it’s not about party anymore. It’s about personality. That’s the truth. Many of those who had won elections in this state in the past, if it was party power, they would not have, but it was because of their personality and popularity.

“What drives me is the people, and I always say this: I believe some people’s destiny is tied to me, to my success. Somebody got me to where I am today. And I believe I need to pay it back.

“If you know me, you know that since I’ve been in politics since 2010, I’ve not gotten any position or received a contract or anything. The money I make is what I’ve been spending to help empower people.”

Falae’s goal to represent the district in the Senate is based on his wish to expand his community development work.

He said, "Now it’s gotten to a point that I want to do more, and I believe the representation at the Senate will help a lot in empowering people. Then also, I believe that representation should get to the grassroots. So, I know what I’ve been through in my life; I know where the shoe pinches, and I’ve lived that life before.

“If I get elected, my priorities would include development of our senatorial district, women and youth empowerment, community development, among others.”
