The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has denied claims that link the party, its leaders, or the state government to a recent act of political violence in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The party made this known in a statement on Tuesday. Chief Uche Obute, the State Publicity Secretary, signed the statement. The APC called the allegations “misleading, unsubstantiated and politically motivated.”
Despite this, the ruling party asked security and law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough and fair investigation into the incident. They also want the facts made public.
The statement said the party would back the prosecution of anyone found guilty of violence or crime, no matter their political ties or status. “The APC has nothing to fear from a transparent investigation and will continue to uphold the principles of democracy, justice and the rule of law,” part of the statement said.
The party also dismissed efforts to connect Governor Peter Mbah with the alleged violence. They argued that his government has focused on peace, security, development, and good governance in the state.
“It is therefore difficult to reconcile allegations of sponsorship of violence with an administration that has consistently placed security, development and good governance among its major priorities,” they added.
The APC also urged opposition parties and other political players in the state to show restraint. They described character assassination, misinformation, inflammatory rhetoric, and unverified accusations as harmful.
The party encouraged its members and supporters to stay calm and obey the law. They warned them not to react to rumors or heated political statements.
They also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations to promote peace, dialogue, and responsible citizenship.
The APC emphasized that political disagreements should be settled through democratic and lawful means, not through violence or confrontation.
The party concluded by saying it remains committed to supporting the development agenda of the Mbah administration. They urged everyone to help maintain peace and stability in Enugu State.
