APC Governors Reject Wike's Coalition Plans Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governors from the All Progressives Congress have made it clear that they are not joining any coalition or alliance with anyone for the 2027 general elections. They say they are fully committed to the APC and its political framework.

Hope Uzodimma, the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, spoke about this after their meeting in Abuja late Monday night. He emphasized that they have not made any formal agreements with any individual or opposition party for the elections.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, is part of the APC-led Federal Government. He is pushing for a Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike has had issues with some APC governors. He recently said in a media chat that Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Uzodimma are allegedly causing problems for him politically. He claims this is due to the rise of his Rainbow Coalition, which he argues is giving the PDP a chance to challenge the ruling party’s candidates in the next elections, which goes against the governors' interests.

In what seemed like a reply to Wike’s comments and his attempts to grow his political reach, the APC governors stated they will not accept any plans that might cause confusion or split loyalties within the party.

Uzodimma, who read the statement after the meeting, said the forum's main goal is to support official APC candidates at all levels. He added that they are not interested in promoting outside interests.

He said, "The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels."

"In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party."

Uzodimma also stated, "The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party."
