ADC Leader Calls on Tinubu to Prioritize Economy Over Politics

A leader of the African Democratic Congress, Dr Chike Okogwu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to pay more attention to Nigeria's economic and social challenges instead of getting caught up in political fights.

Okogwu, who is the ADC National Leader of Persons with Disabilities, made this statement on Saturday in response to the President’s recent remarks about political competition. He believes the Federal Government should focus on policies that really make life better for Nigerians.

He pointed out that rising inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and the high cost of living are the biggest problems facing the people. These issues need the government’s full focus.

“Mr. President should concern himself less with wrestling political opponents and more with wrestling inflation, hunger, insecurity and unemployment.

“These are the real challenges confronting Nigerians,” he said.

Call for Disability Rights

The ADC leader also highlighted the struggles faced by Persons with Disabilities. He mentioned that many still encounter obstacles in accessing healthcare, education, transportation, jobs, and other essential services, even with existing legal protections.

He urged both the Federal Government and state governments to fully enforce the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act. He wants them to create policies that ensure inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

“Disability inclusion should not be treated as charity but as a constitutional right and a development priority. No Nigerian should be left behind,” he said.

Okogwu stated that the ADC is committed to policies that promote accessible infrastructure, quality education, better healthcare, job opportunities, and increased involvement of Persons with Disabilities in governance.

He added that real leadership is measured by the positive changes made in the lives of citizens.

“History celebrates leaders who reduce poverty, strengthen institutions, protect the vulnerable and unite their people,” he noted.

His comments come amid rising political activity as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections. Opposition parties are stepping up their criticism of the Tinubu administration over the country’s economic situation. Meanwhile, the Presidency continues to defend its reforms, claiming they are necessary for stabilizing the economy and achieving long-term growth.
