In less than three years, Abia State has moved from the background to the forefront of national conversations. The reason is clear: results.

The latest “BudgIT 2026 State of States Report” has placed Abia among Nigeria’s top-performing states in fiscal performance, health, education, infrastructure, and governance. The figures are not just good. They are historic.

A few months ago, Abia was named the best-performing state in the South-east zone and won $500,000 USD at the 2025 Nigeria Governors’ Forum Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge. This prize rewards visible improvements in primary healthcare delivery, immunisation coverage, and upgrades in facilities across the 17 LGAs.
